Frequently Asked Questions

Why did you develop www.riverroads.com?
This website was developed in 1996 to help fill in the lack of information on the Mississippi River and Great River Road on the world wide web. Brandon (one of the owners of the site - see below) has always been fascinated with the Great River Road and Mississippi River, the towns along it, and the rich history of the area. This website is meant to be informational and educational, and meant to help people plan their trips along one of the most scenic routes in the United States, as well as become more informed about the area in general.

Who runs www.riverroads.com?
Brandon and Tiffany Vickers, a husband-and-wife team, run this website. Their company is Mississippi Moon Internet Services. Brandon began this site in 1996 and Tiffany joined him in 1998. Brandon does most of the text writing and advertisement sales, while Tiffany handles web design and accounting.

Who pays for the site? Is the website free to use?
Mississippi Moon Internet Services was developed to handle the business end of www.riverroads.com. In the beginning, all fees associated with this website were paid out-of-pocket, but since we started selling low-cost advertising to businesses along the Great River Road, their sponsorship has kept things running. Be sure to visit them and thank them for keeping www.riverroads.com alive!

How can I become an advertiser?
Please visit our advertising information page for details.

Do you offer other services to businesses?
Yes. We also offer low-cost website design, as well as website hosting. Please visit our rates page for details.

Can I use the information or photos on this site for my website, article, or school project?
Because we respect the copyrights of other authors and website designers, all of our text is our own. We also hope you'll respect our copyrights and give credit to us when you lift our text, whether in the form of a link to the page you're quoting from or a listing in your article's or paper's sources. We'd also appreciate knowing when you use us as a source! Most of the photographs on this site are our own - others have been used with the permission of the photographer. Therefore, we request that you do not use any of the photographs on this site without explicit written permission to use them. Please email us if you'd like to request the use of our photos or text.

Can you send me a map of the Great River Road?
As far as we know, there are absolutely no complete maps of the Great River Road - therefore, it's impossible for us to send you one! We're trying, however, to point out the correct routes to take to reach each town - please visit the individual city pages for information. In the future, we may be developing a map of the Great River Road.

Can you send me some brochures?
Any of the brochures we have are ours for research purposes - we've spent a huge amount of time amassing our collection (and it threatens to take over the house sometimes!). Any information we have to share on the Great River Road is on this website. If you absolutely need paper copies of information, either print out sections of our webpage or contact individual towns' tourism agencies or individual businesses and attractions.

Can you help me plan my trip?
All of the resources you need to plan your next trip can be found on this site. We've also listed state, and when available, town tourism agencies, so you can contact them for more information. If you try emailing us, however, we may be able to help with your search for a particular destination or event.

Can you help me find my relatives or ancestors?
We get a lot of requests to help find long-lost relatives or branches of family trees. Because of the number of requests we get, we can't promise assistance in your search, but when we have the time and resources, we try! We're not even hobby genealogists and do our research on the web, but sometimes we've hit the jackpot!
