Fenelon Place Elevator

Located at 512 Fenelon Place is the world's shortest, steepest scenic railway. It was constructed in 1882, the lift is 296 feet long, elevating passengers 189 feet from Fourth Street to Fenelon Place. The ride provides a amazing view of Iowa, Illinois and Wisconsin. Open 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. April 1 to November 30. Call 319-582-6496.

Dubuque Museum of Art/Old Jail Courthouse

Located at Eighth Street and Central Avenue, 319-557-1851. Museum is housed in an old county jail and is an example of Egyptian Revival architecture. The Old Jail has achieved "Landmark" status. The Dubuque County Courthouse is the only gold-domed one in the state of Iowa. Both are listed in the National Register of Historic Places. The museum is open to the public Tuesday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Saturday and Sunday, 1 to 5 p.m.

Mississippi River Museum

The Mississippi River Museum is located in Dubuque's historic Ice Harbor and includes the Welcome Center building, Woodward Riverboat Museum building and the 277-foot-long steamboat, the historic William M. Black is permanently docked at the site. The National Rivers Hall of Fame is also located here. The museum depicts 300 years of river history with displays and hands-on activities. it is open daily 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. For information, call 319-557-9545.
