Fish Aquarium and Hatchery
Owned and operated by the Department of Natural Resources, this aquarium exhibits a large selection of live Mississippi River fish and trout found in local trout streams. Buttons made in Guttenberg from shells are on display. In the early spring months, Northern Pike are hatched in the hatchery. The aquarium is open from 8 A.M. to 8 P.M. May 1 through October 1.
Constructed from 1934 - 1937, Lock & Dam #10 was built under the federal government's Public Works Program. Millions of tons of cargo pass through Guttenberg each year as they transport merchandise up and down the Mississippi on barges. An observation deck allows tourists to view the spectacular site of barges and boats locking through the dam gates.
Lockmaster's House Heritage Museum
Much of Guttenberg's history and the history of the lock and dam system are preserved here, located on the grounds of Lock & Dam #10. The museum is located in the former lockmaster's house, where the lockmasters and their assistants were required to live prior to 1972. The house is the last remaining lockmaster house on the Upper Mississippi and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Open daily from Memorial Day through Labor Day, Weekends in September or appointments for special showing. Closed Mondays. Sponsored by U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and Guttenberg Heritage Society.
