Rock in the House
This unusual attraction is named for a 55 ton boulder that fell 500 feet from the bluff and smashed into the bedroom of the house in 1995. At the time the house was owed by Dwight and Maxine Anderson. Mrs. Anderson had just left the bedroom after photographing a recent remodeling project, when the rock came crashing down and smashed into her bedroom. Today, John & Frances Burt of Fountain City purchased the home, with the boulder still occupying the demolished bedroom, and opened it as a tourist attraction. The city has declared it an historical site and every year, thousands of tourists come from all over the world, to see the "Rock in the House".
On this same property, a 5 ton rock fell of the bluff in 1901, crashing into the bedroom of the house currently owned by the Dubler family. This rock killed Mrs. Dubler while lying in her bed while her blind husband , who was lying next to here, was left practically unharmed.
