Merrick State Park
Adjacent to one of the most picturesque towns along Wisconsin's Great River Road, is Merrick State Park This park is named after George Byron Merrick, noted Mississippi River pilot and historian, is located just north of Fountain City on the backwaters of the Mississippi River. Every year thousands of people come here for hiking and ski trails, swimming, boating fishing and a nature center. The park is a year-round haven for anglers. It's marshy bayous are home to egrets and herons. The park also offers campsites with electricity, showers, dumping station, and handicapped accessible picnic and camp areas.

While in Cochrane, Stop to enjoy a picnic in park shelter watch the Canadian Geese, or take a swim in the heated outdoor pool.
Eagle Bluff
Overlooking Fountain City, Eagle Bluff is the most breathtaking sight on the river. Eagle Bluff stands 550 feet in elevation and is the highest point on the Mississippi River.
Lock & Dam 5A
Watch the barges lock through and view the dam close up. Alma is also the district headquarters for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, who manage the navigation on the river.
