Friday, November 9, 2001 - From Memphis with the Mosquitoes

Hey all.

I am in Memphis TN. I got here this morning and climbed the bank of Mud Island to see the walk through model of the Mississippi. I have been thinking about this stop since day one.

Well the park was closed, the river was dry, and they were blowing the leaves out of it. I was walking through reading the signs when an official looking man said "Where did you come from" -the river- "well we are closed" -No shit-.

Well they told me to leave and that there was nothing to see anyway, just some trees and a model of the river. Oh really, and that wasn't the reason I was there. Well I was a bit bitter. I left them with my trash and attempted to find water but no luck.

I met a nice gentleman named Monty who worked on the water front and was a tour boat pilot. Here gave me some water and pointed me toward the Library. So Memphis does have some nice people. Though the statues in front of the library are all missing their heads.

Well I plan to find some fattening food and then back to the water. I want to get to Greenville a day early, so I plan to move on. The consensus is that I may not have to worry about Alligators down south, we shall see though.

Thanks for all the encouraging emails. Sorry I don't get a chance to reply, (there are so many) but I will make it up to all of you somehow.
